Description
Tomato 'Raspberry Red Hood' - Lycopersicon esculentum seeds
'Raspberry Red Hood' is an unusual cherry tomato variety recommended for growing in the field, in foil tunnels, or in pots. This variety belongs to the group of highly determinant plants that require support, as each plant can produce up to 600 small, cylindrical, raspberry-red berries that are incredibly aromatic and juicy.
Cultivation guide:
- Tomatoes are classified by height of growth into three groups: low (determinant), medium (pool determinant) and high (indeterminant).
- For 'Raspberry Red Hood', seeds should be sown in March. If using supplementary lighting and planting in a heated greenhouse, sow in early March. When growing in natural light and planting in a cold frame, sow at the end of March.
- Sowing depth: approx. 1 cm, at a temperature of 20-25°C. After germination, maintain a day temperature of 20-22°C and a night temperature of 18-20°C.
- Once the plant has a few true leaves, transplant it, covering the stem with soil to encourage root growth.
- After planting outdoors, when the soil temperature is at least 15°C and the daily air temperature at least 10°C, it is recommended to cover the plants with a covering material to help them acclimatise.
- For tall varieties such as 'Raspberry Red Hood', plant with a spacing of 60×60 cm to ensure sufficient light and air circulation, preventing low yields and diseases.
- Tall varieties should be shaped into one- or two-branched plants, supported and tied up as they grow.
- Gently shake the flowering plants on sunny mornings to help with pollination.
- Water in the morning with lukewarm water to ensure the humidity drops in the evening.
- When the bottom bunch starts to mature, remove the bottom leaves, maximum two at a time.
- Fertiliser is adjusted according to the visual appearance of the plants.
- In early August, cut the tops of the plant to ensure that the last fruits ripen.
Each packet contains 0.1g of 'Raspberry Red Hood' seeds.
This variety is ideal for those who want a rich harvest of flavoursome, healthy tomatoes and can be grown by experienced gardeners and beginners alike.
