Bishops Crown chilli seeds
Bishops Crown chilli, also known as Ornamental bell, is a decorative chilli with a unique shape that resembles a bell or bishop's hat. This chilli is mild to moderately hot and varies in colour from green to red when ripe. It is versatile in the kitchen, suitable for fresh salads, pickling, or as a powdered spice, thanks to its fruity flavour with light sweet and herbaceous undertones. With a Scoville value of 5,000 to 15,000, it is available for those who prefer milder spices.
Origin
Originally from South America, specifically Brazil, this chilli belongs to the Capsicum baccatum species, known for its fruity taste. It is easy to grow in the garden or as a potted plant, thrives in sunny conditions, and requires regular watering. For cultivation, it is recommended to start the seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost, provide warmth and humidity for germination, and give the plants plenty of light. Plant them in well-drained soil and water regularly. Fertilise monthly, keep an eye out for pests and diseases, and harvest around 90 days after planting when the fruits change colour. Prune to encourage bushy growth and higher yields.
